NETAŞ and ZTE unveil R&D co-investment plans
At its 50th anniversary summit with the participation of Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, Netaş announced its investment plans, with its new major shareholder ZTE.
The pioneer of Turkey’s ICT industry Netaş celebrated its 50th anniversary in Ankara with a summit on November 29, 2017. The event featured a speech by Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım. At the event, Netaş and its new shareholder ZTE announced their new R&D investments.
Accordingly, Netaş and ZTE Corporation signed three MoU’s for new investments.
Three investment to make Turkey an ICT powerhouse
According to the MoU, within the first quarter of 2018, Netaş will erect a Centre of Excellence on GSM-R, an international wireless broadband communications standard specific to railways.
Secondly, Netaş will provide repair and maintenance services for ZTE products in the EMEA region. This will extend the market reach and increase customer satisfaction for ZTE products, improve Netaş revenues and contribute in Turkey’s service exports.
Last but not least, Netaş and ZTE will provide product trainings for ZTE products for customers and employees in the EMEA region and Eurasia through a new training centre to be established by Netaş, the “Netaş Academy”. This will also support Turkey’s value-added service exports.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım: “We believe in NETAŞ and ZTE in their efforts to manufacture more products with the intellectual efforts of Turkish engineers and the labour of Turkish workers.”
Speaking at Netaş’ 50th anniversary summit, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said, “Developing high value-added products with locally developed technology is our top priority and this is where the importance of the collaboration between Netaş and ZTE stands out. China’s major ICT company [ZTE] came to Turkey 10 years ago […] and entered into a collaboration with one of Turkey’s foremost ICT companies and R&D firms, Netaş, gaining further strength.”
Prime Minister Mr. Yıldırım addressed to ZTE top executives at the event: “From now on, you will produce more domestically developed products with the intellectual efforts of Turkish engineers and labour of Turkish workers, and make the best use of these products in an area covering 56 countries and a population of 15 billion with an annual GDP of USD31 trillion, accessible with a 4-hour flight. Turkey is not a country where you can earn only from the domestic market, but an important centre where you can expand to whole global market. This should be the next target. And I don’t have the slightest doubt that all the necessary work will be carried from now on. As government, we will continue to provide the Netaş and ZTE collaboration the same support that we previously provided to Netaş.”
Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan: “We expect a lot from Netaş and ZTE on national and domestic 5G.”
Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan also delivered a speech at the event. Ahmet Arslan said that Turkey is proud with Netaş’ having left behind half-a-century, having assumed major tasks towards the goal of realizing the dream of a technology-developing society and shaping the information and telecom industry.
Arslan continued: “In the past 15 years, significant investments have been made for Turkey to strengthen its position in the global ICT industry, even to become a member of the league of pioneers. And at this point, we expect a lot from Netaş and ZTE on the development of national and domestic 5G.”

Netaş will remain Turkey’s leader ICT company, the pioneer of national R&D on ICT.”
